Chris Pye: Woodcarving
| |
|
Radiant Green Man by Dave Mahoney Basswood, October 2003 Diameter 15in. Thickness 2in. Author's Notes about the Carving.
I consider the design a variation of Chris Pye's solar Greenman from his book Elements of Woodcarving.
It's a pretty simple design; I think the large number of repeating leaves gives it a lot of interest.
I used one of my house plants as a model for the leaves. I thought about giving him cat pupils but I stayed with the mysterious plain look.
About the Carver.
I've been carving for a little over 2 years now. I learned basically everything from Chris Pye's books, most importantly how to sharpen tools.

Would you like to contribute an interesting, contemporary, Green Man (gargoyles, grotesque etc) woodcarving?
Write to me, telling me a little about it first. | |
