Author's Notes about the Carving.

I was introduced to the Green Man when I studied with Chris Pye a few years ago.
This year I decided to try making a few of them as it is an image that presents great creative possibilities and also is great for practicing faces and foliage.
This piece was carved from Butternut, often referred to as the poor cousin of Walnut. It carves like Walnut, very nicely, but is lighter in color. The piece is finished with oil and wax.

Besides this type of relief, I have played around with a Green Man corbel bracket, where the head is in the round - a trickier proposition.
I have been carving for about 6 years and am developing a website.

Would you like to contribute an interesting, contemporary, Green Man (gargoyles, grotesque etc) woodcarving?
Or have you a friend you could encourage to have their work shown?
Yes? Then I'd love to here from you!

Write to me, telling me a little about it first.
Thanks!
