This is the larger of the corbels, in Oak. Maximum width 9" (200mm) Here you see them lying on their ends with the 'tops' against the wall - effectively giving a view from beneath in situ. There are extra volutes and leaves below the main block: these are carved separately and fixed in place at the back with batons let into the wood about 1" (25mm) and arranged in V. The batons effectively act as a dovetail to lock the parts together. | |
