'Ornamental Carving' can mean many things but mostly it applies to surface decoration: fairly light carving that adds beauty to an otherwise simple or plain surface.
Here is a simple but highly effective example of ornamental carving: what I call a 'Corner Leaf'

Not only can you adapt it, change it into a wide range of forms, either to fit together or within particular spaces, but it's an extremely good subject with which to learn traditional, ornamental carving skills.
In this DVD I will show you how to carve the Corner Leaf and also bring out all those ways of holding the tools and manipulating them that are essential for a competent woodcarver to know.
It's like joining me at the bench for a personal lesson!

I have not described this carving elsewhere.
It is entirely unique to this DVD.

The carving is straightforward and uses only a few tools but will give you vital carving skills to use in more or less any carving situation.
Once you have mastered the Corner Leaf, you'll find you have a range of skills that you can apply elsewhere, such as feathers, mouldings or lettering.

"Seeing is believing!"

In this DVD I show Rob Cosman (a complete beginner at woodcarving), in complete and intimate detail, how to carve this example of ornamental carving: the Corner Leaf.

So, you participate, as if I am personally giving you a masterclass in my workshop!
I take Rob step by step from beginning to end. I work entirely with him; I don't look at the cameras once. I show him; he copies me. He makes mistakes; I correct him. He asks the sort of questions beginners ask and I give him clear explanations and answers.

Additionally there were 4 cameras filming the whole process. One camera was in the ceiling, focussed down on the wood and letters. You can see every detail very clearly, just as Rob and myself saw it.

So, if you really want an insight into ornamental carving and gain a lot of fundamental, traditional carving skills: here you are!
